How would you rate American School of Doha?
First off, I just want to say that this is an amazing school. Once you understand the secret to a good education, you can go far. What鈥檚 the secret? Ask questions, meet with your teachers, study, and push yourself鈥攚hile also allowing yourself to rest when needed. The better your relationship with your teachers, the better your learning experience will be. Every school has a mix of good and bad teachers, as well as friendly and less-friendly ones. But as I worked harder, my teachers noticed, and many became much more supportive. No teacher is out to get you, so don鈥檛 worry about that! Some may be a bit strict, but I鈥檇 say about 90% are very friendly if you approach them with a positive attitude. I also want to highlight the exercise program鈥攊t鈥檚 excellent. The teachers are great, and they don鈥檛 just tell you what to do; they actually teach the concepts behind the exercises. I attended ASD from grades 9 to 11, then spent my senior year at a typical American public school. After taking a similar exercise program there, I can confidently say I preferred the teachers and approach at ASD. If you get the chance, I highly recommend taking photography and video production鈥攖hey鈥檙e fantastic classes. One thing I really appreciated about ASD was how it pushed us to improve. Many schools set criteria but don鈥檛 always grade accordingly, whereas ASD clearly outlines its standards and grades fairly based on them鈥攏othing more, nothing less. If you want an A, just follow the rubric! That being said, ASD is also a competitive school, both academically and in admissions. If you鈥檙e able to get in, the education is well worth it. Overall, ASD is an amazing school, and I had a great educational experience. If I had to mention a downside, I鈥檇 say the social life wasn鈥檛 very exciting, though I was less social there than at my new school. The dress code is also a bit strict, but that鈥檚 largely due to the cultural expectations of Qatar, and the school does its best to be respectful of that. Would definitely recommend ASD!
Great location and first class facilities

I attended ASD my entire educational life (from pre k to high school) before graduating in 2003. ASD offers high quality education that prepares a student for college in the US and elsewhere. They graduate students who are well equipped to attend Ivy League universities. The school prides itself on a diverse environment that is all about tolerance and respect. They teach children how to think, how to express their opinions, how to be speak in public, and how to debate. Love for the environment was also emphasized. I am always nostalgic for its annual events such as Friendship Festival and International Day. One downside is that the curriculum dwelled too much on US history and US politics rather than on world history. I found all that information irrelevant for non-Americans. The Arabic language curriculum was also comparatively weaker than the English language. Overall, I am giving it five stars because this school shaped my love for learning and prepared me well for life.

I attended the American School of Doha for 3 years. While the school and facilities were great, I definitely took some issues with the school leadership. Evidently, so did many of the best teachers, as many of them left.
